Pamela Ullmann

Hi, my name is Pamela Ullmann, and I am a licensed creative arts therapist with over 25 years of experience. In addition, I am a certified mindfulness teacher and transformational life coach. My practice includes combining these modalities to help people heal and find strength within themselves. I create individualized programs that utilize the creative process in a way that empowers. Don’t worry if you’re not into art. I focus on developing an approach just for you. My goal is to help you feel comfortable, motivated and empowered.

My story

As far back as I remember, creating art was my favorite activity. I was an only child, so I often played on my own. I loved to explore all sorts of materials, creating drawings, paintings and crafts. This young girl’s love for art was not just a passing fancy. It became something I ended up studying in both high school and then college. However, the art world is a competitive and critical place to make a career. My desire to help others and curiosity about the human condition led me to study art therapy.

Being in grad school was an exciting time in my life, but there were many life challenges during that time. A rocky marriage with two young children did not seem like an ideal time to work on my master’s degree. I was determined. I knew this was my path. Depression, anxiety, and stress were my constant unwelcome companions as I worked through grad school and my ending marriage. The only thing that held me together was my love of art therapy. The classes were not only educational but therapeutic as well. The tools we were learning in classes, we all experienced directly. Classes or group therapy? Sometimes, it became both.

Eventually healed and remarried years later, my career as an art therapist grew. I first worked with medically impaired and special needs children, and presently, I am an adjunct therapist in an acute psychiatric hospital in northern NJ.

Discovering and learning

My thirst for knowledge in psychology and new-age thought has been ongoing throughout my life. From meditation intensives to reiki sessions, I hold an open mind. I have studied the Kabbalah, the Law of Attraction, Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Positive Psychology.

I heal when putting into practice my creative endeavors and spiritual practices. Depression and anxiety can creep back for many people, including myself. I aim to offer insight to my clients through the tools I have discovered over the years.
